He landed the first-season sires’ championship by a sizeable margin, helped by a team of six black-type winners (including one on dirt in the U.S.) and his Gr.1-winning son Ten Sovereigns was among the season’s most exciting juveniles. This excellent start was reflected in some of the prices paid for yearlings from No Nay Never’s smaller second crop, sired at €17,500. Several sold for more than 500,000gns. Their popularity also reflected the tremendous impact that No Nay Never’s sire Scat Daddy had made, especially in Europe’s top 2yo sprints. No Nay Never set the ball rolling when he took the 2013 Prix Morny, following in the footsteps of his grandsire, the champion 2yo Johannesburg. No Nay Never was unbeaten at two, having also crossed the Atlantic to land the Gr.2 Norfolk S. at Royal Ascot. He wasn’t just a 2yo, though, as he returned from a lengthy lay- off to take a Gr.3 sprint at Keeneland, before finishing second in the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
