Coolmore Ireland Breeders' Handbook 2019

Cattle Cattle form an important part of our grassland management plan. Horses are notoriously selective grazers, and cattle will graze areas within paddocks that have been ignored by the horses, thereby ensuring an even crop of rich pasture throughout each and every paddock. This grass will have a high nutritional content which will massively benefit the young horses raised at Coolmore. From the month of October onwards, when grass growth slows and the land can become wet and prone to damage, the cattle are moved in-doors. The following spring, as the evenings begin to lengthen and the days become warmer, the cattle are let out to pasture in small groups. This is a sure sign that summer is on its way.
