MATING SUGGESTIONS: One of the most striking features of recent seasons has been the emergence of three top-class performers representing Galileo’s partnership with daughters of another champion sire, Danehill Dancer. Between them Minding, The Gurkha and Alice Springs collected the remarkable total of 12 Gr.1 victories, including three classics. The Gurkha’s contribution included winning the Poule d’Essai des Poulains by five and a half lengths before defeating the 2,000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold in the Sussex Stakes. He was also a close second in the Gr.1 Eclipse over a mile and a quarter. The Gurkha also comes from a top-class female line, as his first three dams were stakes winners and his fourth dam is Vallee Dansante, who numbers winners of the Derby, Arc, Prix Marcel Boussac and Grand Criterium among her descendants. Vallee Dansante also has a distinguished half-brother in that very good stallion Green Dancer, who also won the Poule d’Essai des Poulains. 122
