Coolmore Ireland Breeders' Handbook 2019

He then did even better in the Phoenix Stakes, defeating a field which included U S Navy Flag and Romanised to become the second son of Scat Daddy, following Caravaggio, to win this Gr.1 contest. Sioux Nation was to add another Group victory, in the Gr.3 Lacken Stakes over six furlongs, as a 3yo, when he gave weight and a beating to the future July Cup third Fleet Review and the future Gr.3 winner Speak In Colours. He was also a close third in the Gr.1 Flying Five Stakes. Sioux Nation’s dam Dream The Blues is a winning daughter of Catch The Blues, who achieved a Timeform rating of 115 as a four- and five-year-old, thanks to a victory in the Gr.3 Ballyogan Stakes and a second and third in the Gr.3 Cork and Orrery Stakes (now the Diamond Jubilee). Although Sioux Nation has some Danzig blood via his broodmare sire Oasis Dream, Danzig will be back in the fifth generation of Sioux Nation’s foals. This allows ample scope for him to be mated to the grand-daughters of DANEHILL which have been the basis for No Nay Never’s first-crop sires’ championship. The DANEHILL stallions included EXCEED AND EXCEL (broodmare sire of Gr.1 winner Ten Sovereigns), ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (Gr.2 scorer Land Force), ORATORIO (Listed winner Servalan), FASTNET ROCK (Gr.2-placed Neverland Rock) and DANEHILL DANCER (Gr.1-placed The Irish Rover and Gr.3-placed We Go). Mares by KODIAC , CAMACHO , CLODOVIL , DANETIME and HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR could all reinforce Sioux Nation’s precocious talent. Mares by DANSILI , DUKE OF MARMALADE and DYLAN THOMAS all merit a chance with Sioux Nation, as do mares by CHOISIR , MASTERCRAFTSMAN and ZOFFANY . As GREEN DESERT will be back in the fourth generation of Sioux Nation’s foals, a second line is possible. The Gr.1 Flying Five S. winner Havana Grey is inbred 4x3 to GREEN DESERT and the Gr.2 winner Barraquero in inbred 3x3. Mares by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT , CAPE CROSS , DESERT STYLE and KHELEYF produce 4x3. Fast horses from the NUREYEV line could suit, such as daughters of PIVOTAL , EXCELLENT ART , CAPTAIN RIO and KYLLACHY . SIYOUNI , with his dam by DANEHILL , could be especially suitable. Mares by FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND , SHAMARDAL and LOPE DE VEGA could all reinforce Sioux Nation’s juvenile ability. Scat Daddy’s flying daughter Lady Aurelia is inbred 4x3 to STORM CAT and another of his Gr.1 winners, Harmonize, is inbred 4x4. MR PROSPECTOR will be back in the fourth generation of Sioux Nation’s foals. Another line could be added by sending him daughters of RAVEN’S PASS , IFFRAAJ , TAMAYUZ and DUTCH ART . As Scat Daddy sired several good winners at around a mile and a quarter, headed by his magnificent 2018 American Triple Crown winner Justify, Sioux Nation is worth trying with mares by leading middle-distance performers, such as MONTJEU , HIGH CHAPARRAL and GALILEO . The quick-maturing ROYAL APPLAUSE line, including his son and grandson ACCLAMATION and DARK ANGEL , is well equipped to help Sioux Nation sire fast and precocious 2yos. INDIAN RIDGE sired the second dam of No Nay Never’s Gr.2 winner Land Force. Scat Daddy Still Building on Expansive Legacy SCAT DADDY ’ s death in December 2015 means that he was denied his chance of covering elite mares in 2016, when his fee had been set at $100,000. His fee had never been higher than $35,000 in eight previous seasons, yet these eight crops have so far produced 11 Grade I winners, a dozen Grade II scorers and 14 Grade III winners, with more, surely, still to come. It is well worth reminding everyone that only one of the five colts among Scat Daddy’s 11 Grade I winners is old enough to have had runners, this being No Nay Never.
