MATING SUGGESTIONS: The much-missed Scat Daddy owed his 50 northern hemisphere Group/Graded winners to a large number of different broodmare sires and No Nay Never - the Champion first-crop sire of 2018 - is proving similarly versatile. His 36 black-type horses from his first three crops have 33 different broodmare sires. No Nay Never’s excellent results translated into impressive figures at the 2020 yearling sales, with a top price of 650,000gns even though this fourth crop was sired at €25,000. With six 2YO SWs in his first crop, another six in his second and the Gr.1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Alcohol Free in his third, No Nay Never is passing on the precocity and juvenile ability which made him one of Scat Daddy’s 11 European 2YO Group winners. No Nay Never took the 2013 Gr.1 Prix Morny and Gr.2 Norfolk S. at Royal Ascot. He wasn’t just a 2YO, though, as he returned from a lay-off to take a Gr.3 sprint at Keeneland, before finishing second in the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. He is also proving to be more than just a sire of fast 2YOs, with such as Ten Sovereigns and Wichita among his seven Group/Graded winners after the age of two. No Nay Never owes much of his early success to mares by sons of DANEHILL , including EXCEED AND EXCEL (dual Gr.1 winner Ten Sovereigns), ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (Gr.2 scorer Land Force), ORATORIO (dual Listed winner Servalan), FASTNET ROCK (Gr.2-placed Neverland Rock, plus New Zealand Gr.3 winner Need I Say More) and DANEHILL DANCER (Gr.1-placed The Irish Rover). At the 2020 yearling sales, No Nay Never had a 650,000gns colt with a DANEHILL DANCER dam and a 325,000gns colt out of a MASTERCRAFTSMAN mare. The GREEN DESERT branch of the DANZIG line is also attracting attention. CAPE CROSS is the broodmare sire of the Listed winner No Needs Never. Mares by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT and OASIS DREAM have obvious appeal, especially when Scat Daddy sired a Gr.1-winning 2YO from an OASIS DREAM mare. Fast horses from the NUREYEV line could suit. SIYOUNI , with his dam by DANEHILL , could be especially profitable. No Nay Never’s Listed winner All The King’s Men has a dam by PEINTRE CELEBRE . Another of NUREYEV’s sons, THEATRICAL , sired the second dam of his champion 3YO sprinter Ten Sovereigns. Although No Nay Never is inbred 3x4 to Mr Prospector, he is thriving with mares with Mr Prospector blood. The Gr.2- winning siblings Arizona and Nay Lady Nay have a dam by ENGLISH CHANNEL , a son of SMART STRIKE . Another Gr.2 winner, Chestnut Honey, has a dam by CHESTER HOUSE . The SADLER’S WELLS line is sure to feature in No Nay Never’s success story. He already has a Gr.2-winning 2YO with a dam by SADLER’S WELLS and he has two 2YO Listed winners among his first 7 starters out of GALILEO mares. Sadler’s Wells’ brother FAIRY KING sired the second dam of Gr.1 winner Alcohol Free. The SHIRLEY HEIGHTS male line has quickly made its mark with No Nay Never, with his smart son Wichita having a dam by DASHING BLADE . Expect to see No Nay Never make his mark with mares from the quick-maturing ROYAL APPLAUSE line, including those by his son and grandson ACCLAMATION and DARK ANGEL . No Nay Never has a Gr.3 winner out of an INDIAN RIDGE mare and his Group winners Wichita, Land Force and Love Locket all have second dams by INDIAN RIDGE . BLUSHING GROOM’s sons RAINBOW QUEST , NASHWAN and RAHY collectively sired the second dams of four of No Nay Never’s SWs, and RAINBOW QUEST also sired the dam of one of his Listed winners.
