Although he lost that Gr.1 victory, he still has four others, including the 2,000 Guineas, Irish 2,000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes. Another of Gleneagles’ virtues is that he is free of the DANZIG blood which has been the bedrock of much of Galileo’s success. Giant’s Causeway, a full-brother to the dam of Gleneagles, sired Gr.1 winners in Britain and Australia from daughters of DANEHILL . There was every chance that Gleneagles would sire top 2YOs and milers from daughters of DANEHILL and he has already sired the SW Freyja with one, while his 2YO Gr.2 winner Royal Dornoch has a dam by DANEHILL DANCER . He also sired Tabera, one of Germany’s leading fillies, from an ORATORIO mare and the 2020 Japanese Gr.3 2YO winner Shock Action from a FASTNET ROCK mare. In addition to DANEHILL DANCER , Galileo has enjoyed Gr.1 success with daughters of EXCEED AND EXCEL , ROCK OF GIBRALTAR , HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR , DANSILI , DESERT KING and MOZART , and is also shaping up well with mares by FASTNET ROCK , CLODOVIL and KODIAC . With three Group winners out of grand-daughters of Danehill, Gleneagles is already following in Galileo’s footsteps. He should also shine with mares by CHOISIR , as Galileo sired the outstanding Winter from one. The GREEN DESERT branch also has plenty to offer, especially as Galileo has sired an Oaks winner from a GREEN DESERT mare and the dual Derby winner Australia from a daughter of CAPE CROSS . Mares by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT are likely to reinforce Gleneagles’ 2YO ability, as was demonstrated when Southern Hills won the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot.
