SEA THE STARS - CRYSTAL STAR (MARK OF ESTEEM) CRYSTAL OCEAN

BAY 2014

CRYSTAL OCEAN COLT GLITTERS AT €120,000 A colt hailing from the increasingly sought-after and striking first crop produced by Crystal Ocean became the highest-priced foal to come under the hammer at the Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale for eight years when selling to Ben Case and Kevin Ross for €120,000 . In recent years Coolmara’s Kieran Mariga has assembled a high-class band of National Hunt broodmares and his decision to part with €42,000 to secure the dam of this colt, Daydream Beach (Mahler), at this sale in 2017 yielded a spectacular return with this sale.

CRYSTAL OCEAN DRAWS ATTENTION

Another top-class middle-distance runner, Crystal Ocean , has made quite an impact this week with his first crop of foals and the Sea The Stars horse, who stands at The Beeches Stud, played a starring role as he was responsible for a pair of €80,000 colts. The first of these was from Hillview Stud and Lot 641 , a well-related colt, was the subject of much acclaim before Aiden Murphy finally won the battle for the third produce of the Yeats mare Carrowmore . “The sire is producing very good looking stock; I’ve seen a number of them already. This colt is a nice type with a good walk and he will be coming back as a three-year-old,” said Murphy. The same agent later paid €80,000 for another Crystal Ocean foal when securing a fine colt offered by Oliver Loughlin. For good measure, Crystal Ocean was also the sire of a colt from Yellowford Farm, for whom John Kilbride had to go to €70,000 . “My thinking about Crystal Ocean is that when the best horse in the world retires straight to National Hunt, then you have to take note...As far as action goes, I think he has the best action in the sale.”
