MATING SUGGESTIONS: The much-missed Scat Daddy owed his total of 53 Group/Graded winners in the Northern Hemisphere to 47 different broodmare sires and No Nay Never – the champion first-crop sire of 2018 - is proving similarly versatile. No Nay Never’s tally of over 50 black-type horses from his first four Irish crops have more than 40 different broodmare sires. It mustn’t be forgotten that all of his first four of crops of racing age were sired at fees between €17,500 and €25,000, while his next three crops were all sired at fees of at least €100,000. With 17 black-type 2YO winners in his first four Irish crops, No Nay Never is passing on the precocity and juvenile ability which made him one of Scat Daddy’s 11 European juvenile Group winners. No Nay Never took the 2013 Gr.1 Prix Morny and Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, the latter in record time. He wasn’t just a 2YO, though, as he returned from a lay-off to take a Gr.3 sprint at Keeneland, before finishing second in the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. He is also proving to be more than just a sire of fast 2YOs, with such as Alcohol Free, Ten Sovereigns and Wichita proving to be at least as effective at three as they were at two. Scat Daddy had early crops from $10,000 and $15,000 nominations before becoming the hottest sire in America and No Nay Never’s stallion career is on a similar trajectory. No Nay Never owes much of his success to the DANZIG line. His multiple Gr.1-winning filly Alcohol Free is out of a daughter of HARD SPUN and he is working very well with mares by sons of DANEHILL , including EXCEED AND EXCEL (dual Gr.1 winner Ten Sovereigns), ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (Gr.2 scorer Land Force), ORATORIO (SW Servalan), FASTNET ROCK (Gr.2 NZ winner Need I Say More) and DANEHILL DANCER (Gr.1-placed The Irish Rover). The GREEN DESERT branch of the DANZIG line has produced a 7f Gr.3 winner out of a SEA THE STARS mare and SWs out of daughters of CAPE CROSS and OASIS DREAM (2). OASIS DREAM is also the broodmare sire of Sioux Nation, a Gr.1-winning 2YO by Scat Daddy. No Nay Never is thriving with mares with Mr Prospector blood. He owes four of his Gr.2 winners to mares from this line, including Zain Claudette (out of a SPEIGHTSTOWN mare) and the siblings Arizona and Nay Lady Nay (out of a mare by ENGLISH CHANNEL , a son of SMART STRIKE ). Caravaggio, another son of Scat Daddy, sired his first Gr.1 winner from a PIVOTAL mare and No Nay Never has SWs out of daughters of PIVOTAL and PEINTRE CELEBRE . NUREYEV’s son THEATRICAL sired the second dam of his Gr.1 winner Ten Sovereigns. No Nay Never’s Gr.2-winning 2YO Shadn and the stakes winner Visualisation have dams by SADLER’S WELLS and he has two 2YO stakes winners from GALILEO mares. Sadler’s Wells’ brother FAIRY KING sired the second dam of Gr.1 winner Alcohol Free. HIGH CHAPARRAL mares produced two Gr.3 winners by No Nay Never in 2021. He will make his mark with mares from the quick-maturing ROYAL APPLAUSE line. His useful sprinter Royal Commando has a dam by ACCLAMATION . No Nay Never has a Gr.3 winner out of an INDIAN RIDGE mare and his Group winners Wichita, Land Force and Love Locket all have second dams by INDIAN RIDGE . BLUSHING GROOM’s sons RAINBOW QUEST , NASHWAN and RAHY collectively sired the second dams of five of his stakes winners, and RAINBOW QUEST also sired the dam of one of his stakes winners. 59
