MATING SUGGESTIONS: One of the most striking features of recent seasons has been the emergence of three top-class performers representing Galileo’s partnership with daughters of another champion sire, Danehill Dancer. Between them Minding, Sovereign and The Gurkha have won four classics, and, with Circus Maximus and Alice Springs also winning at Gr.1 level, they have collected the remarkable total of 15 Gr.1 victories. The Gurkha’s contribution included winning the Poule d’Essai des Poulains by five and a half lengths before defeating Galileo Gold, Ribchester and Awtaad in the Sussex Stakes. He was also a close second in the Gr.1 Eclipse Stakes. The Gurkha comes from a top-class female line, as his first three dams were stakes winners while his fourth damVallee Dansante has a distinguished half-brother in that very good stallion Green Dancer, who also won the Poule d’Essai des Poulains. Yearlings from the first crop by The Gurkha achieved some notable prices, with two selling for €525,000 and €250,000 at Arqana and two others making €300,000 and €260,000 at the Orby Sale. They were sired at a fee of €25,000. There must be some valuable clues to be found among the best winners sired by Galileo’s stallion sons out of mares by Danehill, including Teofilo and Frankel. The Gurkha enjoys the advantage of having DANEHILL one generation further back in his pedigree. Daughters of six different sons of Danehill have produced black-type winners to these Galileo/Danehill stallions. The Gurkha will produce only 4x3 to Danehill with mares by EXCEED AND EXCEL , ROCK OF GIBRALTAR , FASTNET ROCK , HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR , KODIAC , DANSILI , CLODOVIL and CAMACHO . The Gurkha has already shone in the sales ring with first-crop yearlings from GREEN DESERT line mares making €525,000 and €300,000. Mares from the GREEN DESERT branch have already enjoyed success with the Galileo stallions with dams by Danehill. Frankel has Group winners out of daughters of GREEN DESERT and OASIS DREAM (2). Teofilo’s successful son Havana Gold has a dam by DESERT STYLE , whereas Intello’s first Gr.1 winner Intellogent has a dam by KHELEYF . Teofilo also has Group winners out of daughters of GREEN DESERT and OASIS DREAM . Galileo has sired an Oaks winner from a GREEN DESERT mare and the dual Derby winner Australia from a daughter of CAPE CROSS . The GRAND LODGE branch of the Danzig male line supplied Teofilo with Irish St Leger winner Voleuse de Coeurs (dam by GRAND LODGE ) and the Irish Derby winner Trading Leather (dam by SINNDAR ). The BLUSHING GROOM line also has a lot to offer. Teofilo has a Gr.1 winner with a RAINBOW QUEST mare and a Gr.2 winner from a QUEST TO FAME mare, as well as a Gr.2 winner out of a daughter of GROOM DANCER . Both Teofilo and Frankel have Gr.2 winners with dams by RAHY . Galileo now has 12 Group/Graded winners from 62 foals out of daughters of STORM CAT (21 per cent) and no fewer than eight of them – Churchill, Gleneagles, Ballydoyle, Misty For Me, Marvellous, Decorated Knight, Happily and Clemmie – are Gr.1 winners (13%). Teofilo sired a Gr.1 winner from a daughter of GIANT’S CAUSEWAY . Two sons of Galileo have Gr.2 winners out of daughters of SHAMARDAL . Inbreeding to SADLER’S WELLS is becoming an option with Galileo’s stallion sons. The exceptional Enable is inbred
