He has everything anyone could wish for in a young stallion – pedigree, performance, precocious speed and a sound constitution. He also has enough stouter elements in his pedigree to suggest he will have no problem siring middle-distance performers. His pedigree could hardly be bettered. His sire Galileo has secured his tenth sires’ championship in 11 years, proving as dominant as his own sire, the 14-times champion Sadler’s Wells. And Gleneagles’ dam You’resothrilling is a Gr.2-winning full-sister to Giant’s Causeway, North America’s champion sire in 2009, 2010 and 2012. You’resothrilling is now an outstanding broodmare. Her first five foals – all by Galileo – are all Group winners and have all won or placed at Gr.1 level, with Gleneagles, Marvellous and Happily collectively gaining seven Gr.1 victories. Gleneagles was precocious enough to gain his first success in the June of his first season and he progressed so well that his winning sequence would have stretched to eight, but for the intervention of the Longchamp stewards after the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere. Although he lost that Gr.1 victory, he still has four others, including the 2,000 Guineas, Irish 2,000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes. With a record like that, he qualifies as one of Galileo’s fastest sons. For mating suggestions see Galileo’s other Classic winning milers Churchill and The Gurkha.

Yearling Season Under The Microscope What progeny of the new stallions impressed you? Geoffrey Howson (Howson & Houldsworth Bloodstock): The Gleneagles colts sold by Newsells Park at Doncaster and Whatton Manor at Tattersalls Book 2 were lovely. Grant Pritchard-Gordon (Badgers Bloodstock): … there were some very good-looking progeny of Gleneagles. Laurent Benoit (Broadhurst Agency): I liked the stock of Gleneagles--he has stamped them well as racey, well-balanced horses with a nice quality about them. Peter Doyle (Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock): We saw some very nice stock by Gleneagles; they were good walkers with a nice outlook. Shawn Dugan: The yearlings by Gleneagles stood out; they were athletic types with a lot of presence.
