His sire Montjeu has been one of the greatest classic influences of modern times but it was his speed which makes Camelot exceptional. He cruised to victory in the Gr.1 Racing Post Trophy at two and became Montjeu’s only classic winner over a mile, in the 2,000 Guineas at three. Camelot, like Montjeu, is now a powerful classic influence too. He sired Group winners from daughters of three generations of stallions from the STORM CAT male line. The Irish Derby winner Latrobe and Epsom Oaks second Pink Dogwood are out of a SHAMARDAL mare, Gr.3 winner Skyward is out of a GIANT’S CAUSEWAY mare and French Gr.3 winner Pollara has a dam by STORM CAT . Although Camelot’s second dam is a daughter of DANEHILL , this is proving no barrier to success. His Irish Oaks winner Even So has a dam by Danehill (therefore inbred 4x2). Camelot has Gr.3 winners out of daughters of DANEHILL DANCER (Degraves), DUKE OF MARMALADE (Lady Wannabe), EXCEED AND EXCEL (Current Option) and HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR (Wait Forever). He has also enjoyed Group success with mares by grandsons of DANEHILL , notably siring the Gr.1-winning Wonderment from a grand-daughter of TIGER HILL and the Gr.1-placed Alounak from a daughter of RAIL LINK . The GREEN DESERT branch is also reaping rich rewards with Camelot. His Group performers among his 16 foals out of CAPE CROSS mares are headed by dual Gr.1 winner Russian Camelot and Gr.1-placed Mythical. Camelot also sired Gr.1 winner Sir Dragonet from a daughter of OASIS DREAM , plus the 2020 Gr.3 2YO winner King’s Harlequin from an INVINCIBLE SPIRIT mare. A mare by GREEN DESERT produced Gr.1 winner Athena and Gr.3 winner Goddess to Camelot. With Montjeu as his sire and a grand-daughter of Mr Prospector as his dam, Camelot is bred to a similar pattern to Motivator, sire of the brilliant Treve from a mare by ANABAA . Camelot’s smart son Hunting Horn is out of a mare by INDIAN RIDGE , who also sired the second dam of his Gr.3-winning daughter King’s Harlequin. A second line of MR PROSPECTOR is attractive, in view of the scale of Montjeu’s success with other MR PROSPECTOR line stallions. Camelot already has a Gr.3 winner out of a DUBAWI mare and Listed winners out of mares by DUBAI DESTINATION and GRAND SLAM . Camelot sired the useful SIR EREC from a mare by GALILEO , creating 3x3 to SADLER’S WELLS . Sir Dragonet, Russian Camelot and Current Option are others inbred 3x3 to SADLER’S WELLS . Camelot’s first Group winner, Fighting Irish, has a dam by PIVOTAL and he should also suit daughters of SIYOUNI . Camelot has two Group winners with second dams by SHIRLEY HEIGHTS . DARSHAAN sired the dam of his 2020 Gr.1 winner Sunny Queen and sired the second dam of Hunting Horn and English King. Camelot also has a Listed winner with a dam by DARSHAAN and a Gr.2 performer out of a DALAKHANI mare. SHARPEN UP is a path to follow with Camelot, as he sired the second dams of Montjeu’s classic winners Motivator and Hurricane Run. Montjeu’s top son St Nicholas Abbey was out of a mare by Kris’s son SURE BLADE . Camelot already has Group winners out of daughters of HALLING and TREMPOLINO . 25
