Coolmore Breeders' Handbook 2021

A branch of the Northern Dancer line which has enjoyed repeated classic success with Galileo is the one represented by STORM CAT . Galileo has 12 Group/Graded winners and two Listed winners from 66 foals out of daughters of STORM CAT (21 per cent) and no fewer than eight of them - Churchill, Gleneagles, Ballydoyle, Misty For Me, Marvellous, Decorated Knight, Happily and Clemmie - are Gr.1 winners (12%). Galileo also sired the classic-winning Seventh Heaven from a mare by Storm Cat’s grandson JOHANNESBURG . Teofilo, another Champion son of Galileo, sired a Gr.1 winner from a daughter of GIANTS CAUSEWAY . As Marvellous and Gleneagles are out of a sister to GIANT’S CAUSEWAY , this is an avenue well worth exploring. Frankel also has Gr.1 and Gr.2 winners out of grand-daughters of STORM CAT . Two sons of Galileo have Gr.2 winners out of daughters of SHAMARDAL , so mares by SHAMARDAL , LOPE DE VEGA and FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND are an attractive option for The Gurkha. Another son of Galileo sired the brilliant Enable from a SADLER’S WELLS mare. Frankel and Teofilo have sired Gr.1 winners from daughters of MONTJEU , this being 3x3 to SADLER’S WELLS . Oaks winner Anapurna is one of four Group winners by Frankel with SADLER’S WELLS inbreeding. Another son of Galileo had Gr.2 and Gr.3 2YO winners inbred 3x4 and 3x3 to SADLER’S WELLS . New Approach’s 2YO Gr.1 winner Mac Swiney is inbred 2x3 to GALILEO . Galileo also had excellent results with the NUREYEV line, including siring 11 Group winners out of PIVOTAL mares. Frankel is also shaping up well with PIVOTAL mares, notably siring the top-class Cracksman and the Gr.1 winner Veracious. Galileo also has classic winners out of daughters of THEATRICAL and STRAVINSKY . New Approach sired Gr.1 winner Talent from a PEINTRE CELEBRE mare. Australia already has two Group winners with second dams by NUREYEV . The Gurkha should be a natural for the MILL REEF line, and Australia’s first classic winner, Galileo Chrome, has a second dam by DARSHAAN . Three sons of Galileo have sired a Group winner from DARSHAAN mares. Galileo has sired Gr.1 winners from three generations of descendants from Mill Reef. Altogether Galileo has 11 Group winners out of DARSHAAN mares and has 23% stakes winners with Darshaan’s son MARK OF ESTEEM . MARK OF ESTEEM mares have also been shining with Galileo’s sons, producing the likes of Permian, Ostilio, Ajman Princess and the Hong Kong star Exultant. A DAYLAMI mare produced the classic-winning Logician to Frankel. Galileo is excelling with the ROBERTO line and has 45% stakes winners from SILVER HAWK mares. His partnership with INTIKHAB has been tremendously effective, with five Group winners from 11 foals, including Arc winner Found. The BLUSHING GROOM line suits Galileo and his sons. Galileo sired the Gr.1 winner Galikova from a BLUSHING GROOM mare and RAINBOW QUEST sired the second dams of Frankel, Noble Mission and Curvy. Australia is one of three sons of Galileo to have sired a black-type winner from daughters of RAINBOW QUEST and New Approach’s Oaks winner Talent has a second dam by RAINBOW QUEST . Frankel and Teofilo have both sired Gr.2 winners from daughters of RAHY , and Teofilo’s 2020 Gr.1 winner Donjah has a dam by MT LIVERMORE . Galileo has numerous Gr.1 winners inbred to MR PROSPECTOR within four generations. Australia has already sired classic-placed Cayenne Pepper from a mare by GONE WEST’s son ELUSIVE QUALITY . The KINGMAMBO branch is recommended, as are mares by DUBAWI , as four sons of Galileo have Group winners out of them. AUSTRALIA is one of three sons of Galileo to have sired Group winners from ACCLAMATION mares so they are very likely to suit The Gurkha as well. Galileo’s classic winners New Approach and Was respectively have a dam and a second dam by AHONOORA . Galileo also has three Group winners, including a classic winner, from mares by INDIAN RIDGE and three of his sons also have Group winners from them. Both Galileo and Frankel have sired Gr.1 winners from INCHINOR mares. Gleneagles’ Gr.3-winning 2020 2YO Shock Action has a second dam by INDIAN RIDGE . The SHARPEN UP line is another guaranteed to suit The Gurkha, as it has produced a classic winner to his sire Galileo. Teofilo has three SWs out of DIESIS mares and Galileo has nine Group winners with second dams by either DIESIS or his brother KRIS . The Gurkha’s Group-winning 2YO Best Of Lips has a dam from the KENMARE sire line, through VERGLAS , while another of his better winners has a second dam by KENMARE’s son KENDOR .
