Coolmore America Handbook 2021
his versatility by developing into a leading turf performer at three, when he won the Gr.1 Hollywood Derby from the future three-time Gr.1 winner Channel Maker. Even though he did so well on turf, Mo Town has the pedigree of a dirt performer. His dam, the two-time winner Grazie Mille, represents the highly successful partnership which Bernardini has enjoyed with mares by Carson City. From 23 foals it has produced six SWs (26%), headed by the Gr.1 winners Cavorting and A Z Warrior, the Gr.2 winner Wilburn and the Gr.3 winner Gala Award. Mo Town’s second dam, Molto Vita, was a tough and fast dirt performer. A winner of eight of her 28 starts, she won a Gr.3 at Keeneland and was twice placed at Gr.1 level. The next dam, Princess Polonia, was a Gr.3-winning daughter of the great Danzig. She too was a dirt performer. It is worth noting that Mo Town hails from a sire-producing family as his fifth dam is a full-sister to RAISE A NATIVE , a hugely influential stallion whose progeny included the likes of MR PROSPECTOR , ALYDAR and MAJESTIC PRINCE . Mo Town’s sire Uncle Mo has thrived with mares from the MR PROSPECTOR line and there is no reason why Mo Town shouldn’t follow suit, as his line of Mr Prospector will be back in the fifth generation of his foals’ pedigrees. The GONE WEST branch provided Uncle Mo with Gr.1 winner Gomo and Gr.3 winner Lost Raven (both out of daughters of ELUSIVE QUALITY ) and Gr.2 winner Laoban (out of a SPEIGHTSTOWN mare). UNBRIDLED is the broodmare sire of Gr.1 winner Unbridled Mo, while his sons EMPIRE MAKER , UNBRIDLED’S SONG and UNTUTTABLE all rank among the broodmare sires of Uncle Mo’s Graded winners. Uncle Mo’s 2020 Gr.2-winning 2YO Golden Pal has a dam by MIDSHIPMAN , a son of UNBRIDLED’S SONG . The Gr.1 Wood Memorial winner Outwork has an EMPIRE MAKER dam. Altogether, daughters of three sons of FAPPIANO have produced Graded winners to Uncle Mo, the others being RUBIANO and DESERT GOD , and grandson VICTORY GALLOP is also on the list. Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist is one of three Gr.1 winners with a Mr Prospector line mare as his second dam, the stallions being SEEKING THE GOLD , CORONADO’S QUEST (Dream Tree) and CARSON CITY (Mo Town). Uncle Mo also has talented winners with dams by TWO PUNCH , FUSAICHI PEGASUS , CRAFTY PROSPECTOR and BLACK TIE AFFAIR . He is also doing well with the AFLEET branch, with his foals out of AFLEET ALEX mares featuring the Gr.1 winner Dream Tree. He also sired Gr.3 winner Name Changer from a NORTHERN AFLEET mare. Uncle Mo has quickly proved himself with mares from the STORM CAT line. He has already sired the top-class Nyquist and the Gr.3 winner Auntie Joy from daughters of FORESTRY as well as Gr.3 winners from daughters of STORM CAT , BLUEGRASS CAT and TALE OF THE CAT . His Gr.2 winner Harvest Moon has a dam by GIANT’S CAUSEWAY’s son SHAMARDAL , and Uncle Mo also has Graded-placed winners with dams by GIANT’S CAUSEWAY , SCAT DADDY , FREUD and HENNY HUGHES . A.P. INDY will be back in the fourth generation of Mo Town’s foals. A second line to this champion sire is an option, as there is a growing number of GSWs inbred to A.P. Indy, including the Gr.1 or Gr.2 winners Sweet Loretta (3x4), American Anthem (4x2), Coal Front (3x3) and I Spent It (3x4). Mo Town should do well with mares by all the successful stallions from the A.P. Indy-Mr Prospector cross, such as PULPIT , MINESHAFT , FLATTER and CONGRATS . Daughters of TAPIT are worth considering now that Uncle Mo has sired the smart Pneumatic from one. Mares by BERNARDINI and MINESHAFT have already produced Gr.1 winners in 2020 with a son of Uncle Mo. In view of Mo Town’s success on turf, the SADLER’S WELLS line is a likeable option. Daughters of EL PRADO , MEDAGLIA D’ORO and KITTEN’S JOY are candidates. Uncle Mo has sired Graded winners from mares by DIXIELAND BAND (Gr.2 winner King Guillermo), by NUREYEV’s son UNUSUAL HEAT (Gr.1 winner Mo Forza), by DANZIG’s son WAR FRONT (Gr.2 winner Enola Gay) and by SADLER’S WELLS’ son MONTJEU . Uncle Mo already has SWs out of daughters of DEPUTY MINISTER , FRENCH DEPUTY and DEFRERE so this line is likely to be successful with Mo Town as well. Uncle Mo has also sired Gr.3 winners from daughters of DYNAFORMER and SAINT BALLADO and he has three Graded-placed winners out of MORE THAN READY mares. His top-class daughter Bast is inbred 3x2 to ARCH . Mo Town would move the inbreeding back to 4x2, and with daughters of BLAME it would be 4x3. It is no surprise then to see that one of Uncle Mo’s sons has sired the 2020 Gr.1-winning juvenile Simply Ravishing from a mare by MORE THAN READY .
