Fully mature as a 4YO, Cupid became a Gr.1 winner with a dominant display in the Gold Cup at Santa Anita. The son of Tapit comes from an accomplished female line. His dam, the stakes-placed Pretty ’n Smart, has four stakes winners to her credit, including the speedy performers Ashley’s Kitty (Gr.3 Railbird Stakes over 7f) and Heart Ashley (a dual Gr.3 winner over 6f). Cupid’s pedigree therefore represents a mix of speed and stamina, and his female line’s speed will help him sire juvenile winners. Tapit has earned a 2YO Sire’s Championship as well as his three General Sires Championships. The STORM CAT line has been a fertile source of Graded winners by Tapit, with mares by nine different sons supplying Graded winners. Among them are GIANT’S CAUSEWAY , HENNESSY and FORESTRY . Harlan’s sons HARLAN’S HOLIDAY and MENIFEE have daughters with Gr.2 winners by Tapit, so INTO MISCHIEF comes into the picture. Other sons of Tapit have Graded winners out of daughters of STORM CAT , HENNY HUGHES and GIANT’S CAUSEWAY . Although Tapit has two lines of Mr Prospector, he owes numerous Graded stakes winners to mares from the Mr Prospector line. Although Tapit is by Pulpit, a grandson of SEATTLE SLEW , the great Triple Crown winner also appears on the dam’s side of several of his good winners. Frosted and Tapwrit are inbred 4x4. Gr.2 winner Dancing House and Gr.3 winner Touching Beauty are inbred 4x3 to SEATTLE SLEW . Cupid could be tried with mares by such as BERNARDINI , MALIBU MOON and MINESHAFT, which create 4x3 to A.P. Indy. The Gr.1 winner Sweet Loretta is inbred 3x4 to A.P. INDY . Tapit has sired Gr.1 winners from mares by KRIS S . and his son PRIZED , the latter being the broodmare sire of Untapable.
