Coolmore America Handbook 2019

MATING SUGGESTIONS: Uncle Mo has wasted no time in demonstrating his outstanding talent as a stallion. A decisive winner of the first-crop sires’ title, he then turned the second-crop sires’ championship into a one-horse race, with Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist leading the charge. His total of first-crop Graded stakes winners now stands at a tremendous 14. Although none of Uncle Mo’s four crops of racing age in 2018 was sired at more than $35,000, the second and third crops have also produced Gr.1 winners and the stakes winners are starting to flow from his fourth crop, to the extent that he now has 42 stakes winners. The response to his fifth crop, sired at $75,000, has been an average of $335,000 from 81 sold, with three yearlings selling for seven figures. Uncle Mo is ideal for MR PROSPECTOR line mares. He owes 12 of his Graded winners to mares from this male line, with the GONE WEST and FAPPIANO branches both playing important roles. The GONE WEST branch provided him with Gr.1 winner Gomo and Gr.3 winner Lost Raven (both out of daughters of ELUSIVE QUALITY ) and Gr.2 winner Laoban (out of a SPEIGHTSTOWN mare). UNBRIDLED is the broodmare sire of Gr.1 winner Unbridled Mo, while his sons EMPIRE MAKER and UNTUTTABLE are respectively the broodmare sires of Gr.1 Wood Memorial winner Outwork and Gr.3 winner Uncle Vinny. RUBIANO - like Unbridled a son of FAPPIANO - supplied the dam of another Gr.3 winner, Mo Tom. There are also Graded-placed performers with dams by UNBRIDLED’S SONG and QUIET AMERICAN . Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist has a second dam by SEEKING THE GOLD (sire also of the dam of Gr.1-placed Conquest Mo Money) and Uncle Mo also has talented winners with dams by TWO PUNCH , FUSAICHI PEGASUS , CRAFTY PROSPECTOR , CARSON CITY and BLACK TIE AFFAIR . AFLEET ALEX mares have produced his Gr.1 winner Dream Tree and a $1.1m 2018 yearling. He also sired Gr.3 winner Name Changer from a NORTHERN AFLEET mare. Uncle Mo’s 2018 yearlings included two high-priced youngsters that are out of mares by Carson City’s son CUVEE . It should pay to try Uncle Mo with more mares by STREET CRY , as this cross produced two of his highest-priced 2018 yearlings. He has already sired the Gr.1 winner Dream Tree from a mare inbred 4x4 to MR PROSPECTOR and the Gr.3 winners Uncle Vinny and Forty Under from mares inbred 4x3 and 3x4 respectively. Uncle Mo has quickly proved himself with the STORM CAT line, siring the top-class Nyquist and the Gr.3 winner Auntie Joy from daughters of FORESTRY and the Gr.3 winner Ultra Brat from a STORM CAT mare. He also has Graded-placed stakes winners with dams by GIANT’S CAUSEWAY , FREUD and SCAT DADDY . He should also be ideal for daughters of TALE OF THE CAT and HENNESSY and for other grand-daughters of STORM CAT . Uncle Mo is making an impact with SEATTLE SLEW blood, especially with mares by A.P. Indy’s excellent son BERNARDINI . His first foals bred this way include Gr.1 winner Mo Town and Gr.2 winner Mopotism. His Gr.3 winner Miss Mo Mentum is from a MINESHAFT mare. Uncle Mo should therefore do well with mares by all the successful stallions from the A.P. Indy-Mr Prospector cross, such as PULPIT , MINESHAFT , FLATTER and CONGRATS . Uncle Mo also has the size to suit daughters of TAPIT . Indian Charlie had four stakes winners among his ten foals out of DIXIELAND BAND mares, and Uncle Mo’s second dam is by the same stallion. Uncle Mo already has three black-type winners inbred 4x3 to DIXIELAND BAND . Uncle Mo’s grandsire In Excess sired one of his best winners, Musical Chimes, from a daughter of SADLER’S WELLS . EL PRADO is the broodmare sire of his 2yo Listed winner Galilean and MEDAGLIA D’ORO is the broodmare sire of a $650,000 2018 yearling. Uncle Mo already has black-type winners out of daughters of DEPUTY MINISTER and DEFRERE . He has already sired Gr.3 winner Royal Mo from a SAINT BALLADO mare and has two Graded-placed fillies out of MORE THAN READY mares.
