Whereas Giant’s Causeway was rated the second-best juvenile in Europe, with a Timeform rating of 119p, Air Force Blue was Europe’s best two-year-old with an outstanding 6

rating of 128p , after winning three consecutive Gr.1 races. He took the Phoenix Stakes over six furlongs and both the National Stakes and Dewhurst Stakes over seven. Few colts have succeeded in winning both the National Stakes and the Dewhurst but one of them was Storm Cat’s sire Storm Bird. A $490,000 yearling, Air Force Blue comes from the sixth crop by War Front. Although the previous five had all been sired at fees of $15,000 or less, the son of Danzig has amassed an impressive percentage of Graded/Group winners, with 42 among his 652 foals of racing age. This equates to a world-class figure of over 6 per cent and War Front seems destined to follow in Danzig’s footsteps as an important sire of sires. Although Air Force Blue made his name on turf, both his parents and both his grandsires did all their winning on dirt, so he is entitled to prove as versatile as War Front regarding his progeny’s surface requirements. His second dam, Circle of Gold, is a sister to Flanders, America’s champion 2yo filly of 1994 and dam of champion Surfside. Air Force Blue has the advantage of having none of the SEATTLE SLEW blood which helped his family produce multiple Gr.1 winner Surfside. War Front has Graded winners from mares by A.P. INDY and his son PULPIT , achieving an impressive 20 per cent black-type winners with daughters of PULPIT . This suggests daughters of TAPIT could work as they would produce two lines to FAPPIANO and two to Tapit’s second dam Ruby Slippers. War Front has several good winners inbred 2x4 to DANZIG , including Gr.1 winners War Flag, Hit It A Bomb and Brave Anna. Some of these winners have dams by ARCH , who was out of a DANZIG mare. Air Force Blue has plenty of scope to shine with mares from the prolific male line of MR PROSPECTOR . War Front has Gr.1 winners out of mares by FORTY NINER , MISWAKI , SMART STRIKE and WOODMAN . Other sons of War Front have already sired Graded winners from daughters of GULCH , SPEIGHTSTOWN , CITY ZIP , Forty Niner’s grandson TRIPPI and STREET SENSE . The FAPPIANO branch is another attractive option, as War Front has four black-type winners from his first 23 foals out of UNBRIDLED’S SONG mares, as well as a Gr.2 winner from a GRINDSTONE mare. Air Force Blue is well worth trying with mares by Mr Prospector’s grandsons, such as STREET CRY (War Front has two black-type winners from his first seven foals) and ELUSIVE QUALITY . War Front has two Gr.1 two-year-old winners out of a SADLER’S WELLS mare and three Gr.1 winners out of GALILEO mares, including the 2018 2yo Fog of War and the triple Gr.1 winner U S Navy Flag. He also has a Gr.2 winner out of an EL PRADO mare and a Gr.3 winner with a MONTJEU dam. Mares by MEDAGLIA D’ORO and KITTEN’S JOY are a likeable option and Air Force Blue merits a chance with GALILEO mares. At least seven other grandsons of Danzig have sired Gr.1 winners from STORM CAT line mares, including from daughters of GIANT’S CAUSEWAY , HENNESSY , TALE OF THE CAT and FOREST WILDCAT . War Front has Graded winners from mares by two BLUSHING GROOM line stallions including RAHY . War Front has Graded winners from daughters of DYNAFORMER and RED RANSOM , and from mares by ARCH , a son of KRIS S . He also has Gr.1 and Gr.2 winners with second dams by SILVER HAWK .

“ AIR FORCE BLUE was a 2YO champion, was very fast, was a grand-looking horse, and is out of what I think was one of Bill Young's best families. None of us know for sure, but I'd look for him to have a big chance... I'm going to breed a couple more mares to him this year, based on what I've seen so far [of his stock].” Air Force Blue’s breeder Arthur Hancock , PaulickReport.com , 02/27/18

PIONEEROF THE WEST Forestry Affirmed Gr.3-pl ST PATRICK'S DAY Yankee Gentleman Ecliptical Gr.3-pl MATING SUGGESTIONS: American Pharoah was so impressive in winning the Gr.1 Del Mar Futurity and Gr.1 FrontRunner Stakes that the compilers of the Experimental Free Handicap awarded him joint-top weight with the BC Juvenile winner and it was American Pharoah who secured the Eclipse Award. The following season he justified all the confidence shown in him by becoming the first Triple Crown winner for 37 years. In the process he showed all the talent, versatility, durability and courage which entitle him the greatest of respect as a stallion. His pedigree is a blend of speed and stamina, as his dam Littleprincessemma is closely related to Storm Wolf (Gr.2 winner over 7f) and Misty Rosette (Gr.3 winner over 6½f). American Pharoah’s bloodlines allow him tremendous scope. Mr Prospector will be back in the sixth generation of his foals and his pedigree is free of such as A.P. INDY , SEATTLE SLEW , DANZIG , SADLER’S WELLS , DEPUTY MINISTER , ROBERTO and HALO . Even STORM CAT will be back in the fourth generation of his foals and FAPPIANO in the fifth, allowing a second line. Empire Maker sired Gr.1 winners from mares by three different sons of SEATTLE SLEW , including Royal Delta from an A.P. INDY mare. Altogether he sired 8% black-type winners from daughters of A.P. INDY . Empire Maker’s son Bodemeister has sired American Anthem from an A.P. INDY mare and Once On Whiskey from a MINESHAFT mare. American Pharoah must be a prime candidate for daughters of A.P. INDY and his sons such as PULPIT , MALIBU MOON and MINESHAFT . His high-priced first-crop yearlings included a $1.4m colt with a PULPIT dam and a $1.2m filly with a MALIBU MOON dam. He also had an $800,000 colt with a dam by A.P. Indy’s son OLD TRIESTE . Daughters of TAPIT would create 4x4 to UNBRIDLED while BERNARDINI is broodmare sire of Pioneerof The Nile’s Gr.3 winner Dark Nile. Empire Maker sired 15% black-type winners from daughters of SEEKING THE GOLD . There are numerous other options from this MR PROSPECTOR male line, including KINGMAMBO , CARSON CITY , SMART STRIKE , CURLIN , DISTORTED HUMOR , SPEIGHTSTOWN (4x4 to Storm Cat) and STREET CRY . EL CORREDOR , a grandson of GONE WEST , is the broodmare sire of two high-priced first crop yearlings by American Pharoah. Mares by sons of Storm Cat create only 4x3 to STORM CAT . This is well worth trying, as Empire Maker sired Bodemeister and In Lingerie from daughters of STORM CAT . Pioneerof The Nile also sired the champion 2yo Classic Empire from a grand-daughter of STORM CAT . American Pharoah’s high-priced yearlings included youngsters with dams by CAT THIEF and DISCREET CAT , and two with second dams by STORM CAT , while the high-priced colt out of Crisp is inbred 4x4 to STORM CAT . Empire Maker sired a Gr.1 winner from a mare by DANZIG , plus Gr.2 winners from mares by Danzig’s sons BELONG TO ME and PINE BLUFF . This suggests American Pharoah could thrive with mares by other dirt performers by DANZIG , such as WAR FRONT , HARD SPUN and EXCHANGE RATE . American Pharoah’s first crop includes three out of mares by GALILEO , two sold for $750,000 and $675,000. EL PRADO and his sons MEDAGLIA D’ORO and KITTEN’S JOY are other members of the SADLER’S WELLS line. A mare by TOUCH GOLD is the dam of a $1m colt by American Pharoah. This suggests daughters of AWESOME AGAIN , DEHERE and GHOSTZAPPER , especially when Pioneerof The Nile has a Gr.3-winning juvenile with a dam by GHOSTZAPPER . Pioneerof The Nile sired Gr.3 winner Vinceremos from a MORE THAN READY mare and Preakness third Social Inclusion from a SAINT BALLADO mare. American Pharoah’s high-priced first crop yearlings included a $525,000 colt with a MORE THAN READY dam and an $800,000 colt with a second dam by SOUTHERN HALO . Bodemeister sired the Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming from a mare by IN EXCESS . In Excess’s son INDIAN CHARLIE sired the dam of American Pharoah’s $2.2m first-crop yearling. This suggests that daughters of UNCLE MO will also prove to be extremely fruitful with American Pharoah.

“The American Pharoahs are unbelievable” Mark Casse

“We are such big American Pharoah fans right now,” he said. “His babies are looking fantastic. We have several foals that we bred on the farm that we love; a couple yearlings, a couple weanlings and we are breeding probably five back because we think they are so nice.” ... From what he has seen, Hartley believes American Pharoah’s offspring will develop quickly. “They just have that look to them,” he said. “...I think there is a lot of potential for that stallion to be something fantastic.” Randy Hartley , TDN, August 12, 2018

It is fair to say that he dominated his generation throughout the year, from the moment he made a winning debut three days before the Kentucky Derby. From then on it was Graded stakes only and he remained unbeaten, except for the time he lost his rider in the Gr.1 Hopeful Stakes. Fast enough to take the Gr.3 Bashford Manor Stakes over six furlongs in early July, Classic Empire was much the best in the Gr.1 Breeders’ Futurity and he showed courage as well as class in repelling Not This Time’s challenge in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Despite this demanding juvenile campaign, Classic Empire trained on well, notably taking the Gr.1 Arkansas Derby and being beaten only a head in the Gr.1 Preakness. He also has the pedigree of a potentially high-class stallion. He is bred along similar lines to Triple Crown hero American Pharoah, as both were sired by Pioneerof The Nile from grand-daughters of Storm Cat. He also shares the 16

same sire as Cairo Prince, who already has a Graded winner among his first-crop runners. Like American Pharoah, Classic Empire enjoys the significant benefit of having a pedigree free of such as A.P. INDY , SEATTLE SLEW , DANZIG , SADLER’S WELLS , DEPUTY MINISTER , ROBERTO and HALO . His two lines to Mr Prospector will be no closer than the fifth and sixth generations of his foals’ pedigrees. Even Storm Cat will be back in the fourth generation and Fappiano in the fifth, allowing a second line to either. Empire Maker sired Gr.1 winners from mares by three different sons of SEATTLE SLEW , including the three-time champion Royal Delta from an A.P. INDY mare. Altogether he sired 8% black-type winners from daughters of A.P. INDY . Empire Maker’s son Bodemeister has sired the fast Gr.2 winner American Anthem from an A.P. INDY mare and the Gr.3 winner Once On Whiskey from a MINESHAFT mare. Classic Empire must be a prime candidate for daughters of A.P. INDY and his sons, especially those which combine A.P. INDY with MR PROSPECTOR , such as PULPIT , MALIBU MOON and MINESHAFT . The similarly-bred American Pharoah had a $1.2m first-crop colt with a PULPIT dam and a $1.2m filly with a MALIBU MOON dam. Daughters of TAPIT create 4x4 to the powerful classic influence UNBRIDLED . Daughters of BERNARDINI , broodmare sire of Pioneerof The Nile’s Gr.3 winner Dark Nile, should also help Classic Empire sire potential Triple Crown performers. An American Pharoah filly which sold very well in France is inbred 4x4 to UNBRIDLED . Classic Empire’s yearling half-sister by CANDY RIDE sold for $775,000 in 2018. Mares by GIANT’S CAUSEWAY and other sons of Storm Cat, such as FOREST WILDCAT , BLUEGRASS CAT , STORMY ATLANTIC and YANKEE GENTLEMAN , create only 4x3 to STORM CAT . This is well worth trying as Empire Maker sired Bodemeister and In Lingerie from daughters of STORM CAT . Empire Maker sired a Gr.1 winner from a mare by Danzig, plus Gr.2 winners from mares by Danzig’s sons BELONG TO ME and PINE BLUFF . This suggests Classic Empire could thrive with mares by other dirt performers by DANZIG , such as WAR FRONT , HARD SPUN and EXCHANGE RATE . EL PRADO and his sons MEDAGLIA D’ORO and KITTEN’S JOY represent the SADLER’S WELLS line, as does the great GALILEO , whose daughters produced American Pharoah yearlings which sold for $750,000 and $675,000. Empire Maker and Pioneerof The Nile have both sired black-type winners from a daughter of TOUCH GOLD . Pioneerof The Nile has a Gr.3-winning juvenile with a dam by GHOSTZAPPER . Pioneerof The Nile sired the Gr.3 winner Vinceremos from a MORE THAN READY mare and Preakness third Social Inclusion from a SAINT BALLADO mare. HOLY BULL is the broodmare sire of Cairo Prince, another of Pioneerof The Nile’s best sons.

With the champion two-year-old Maria’s Mon as his grandsire, Competitive Edge was precocious enough - and fast enough - to score by more than ten lengths over six furlongs at Saratoga in July. He was again impressive when upped to seven furlongs in the Gr.1 Hopeful Stakes, scoring by nearly six lengths. These efforts earned him 121 on the Experimental Free Handicap. He went on to extend his unbeaten record to four as a three-year-old, taking the seven-furlong Tamarac Stakes and the Gr.3 Pat Day Mile on Derby day. These four wins were gained by a total of nearly 29 lengths.
