Just another year During the 2015 season, Galileo joined Sadler’s Wells and Danehill as the only sires in history with over 200 stakes winners. His tally of 35 stakes winners in Europe this year (12 clear of the next best sire) includes no less than 7 Group-winning 2-year-olds! In the Classics he enjoyed success as a sire, as a sire of sires and as a broodmare sire. But then by Galileo’s own lofty standards, 2015 was just another year.

In august, the Richard Hannon-trained juvenile Tony Curtis earned rave reviews when landing the Stonehenge Stakes-L.R. to become his sire’s 100th Blacktype winner. Other top performers in 2015 included Prince Gibraltar who added the Grosser Preis von Baden-Gr.1 to his Group 1 juvenile success in France. Rock of Gibraltar’s 11 Group 1 winners worldwide also include ace sprinter Society Rock, Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Samitar, Eclipse winner Mount Nelson, Prix de la Foret winner Varenar and the Irish-bred South african Horse of the Year Europa Point to name but a few.

A hugely talented racehorse, Rip Van Winkle is the second highest-rated horse by Galileo behind only the great Frankel. At stud he got off to the best possible start with his first two-year-old runners. First came a 1-2 in the Group 3 Grangecon Stud Stakes at the Curragh in June of 2014 followed by Group 1 and Group 2 successes for Dick Whittington in the six-furlong Phoenix Stakes and the Railway Stakes. And during the 2015 season he’s had five new Group/Stakes performers. He sires exceptionally good-looking and good-moving stock so it was no surprise to see his first yearlings sell for up to 400,000 Guineas (to David Redvers) and his second crop realise up to € 350,000 (to Juddmonte Farms) while at Tattersalls last December a colt foal sold to MV Magnier for 320,000 Guineas. already a proven Group 1 sire

This is Galileo, the world’s finest sire, in a bronze by Charlie Langton at Coolmore. There are others too, commissioned to mark the accomplishments of outstanding sires like Sadler’s Wells, Caerleon, Be My Guest, Montjeu and Danehill. In the future Australia, Camelot, Canford Cliffs, Fastnet Rock, Gleneagles, Mastercraftsman, Zoffany, and more, may require theirs. We’ve got plenty of room! Earning their Bronze

The best possible start

No less than 17 individual Group 1 winners in 2015 were foaled or spent their formative months at Coolmore. These include Sir Robert Ogden’s Amazing Maria, Newtown Anner Stud’s Fascinating Rock, Jeff Smith’s Arabian Queen who defeated Golden Horn in the Juddmonte International, Juergen Imm’s German Derby winner Nutan, Merry Fox Stud’s Second Step and the Wertheimer Brothers’ brilliant miler Solow. Furthermore Kingston Hill, who joins the roster for 2016, spent his first months at Coolmore’s Castlehyde Stud where Barry and Fiona Reilly have been sending their Irish mares since 1983. You don’t need your own farm. Why not board your mares at Coolmore, and give your stock the best possible start in life.

at Coolmore we’ve always believed in standing stallions who have shown a high level of ability at 2. So it’s no surprise to see them with record numbers of group/graded winners on both sides of the atlantic. our five new horses at Coolmore ireland and Coolmore america this year all excelled as juveniles.
